Fans of salmon, sushi, and Japanese art will appreciate this soft shirt! Its unisex design is perfect for women and men. And it makes the perfect gift for a chef, fisherman, or lover of Japanese cuisine.

This design is based on the work Head of Salmon (Sake Atama 鮭頭) by Hokkei Totoya. Hokkei was a famous Edo Period ukiyo-e artist. And he learned under an icon: Hokusai. He was a fishmonger before he became a famous artist, which might explain this work of art.

Hokkei was prolific and even published a book of sketches called Hokkei manga.

Hokkei created Head of salmon around 1820. Back then, Japan still had an abundant wild salmon population. Today, salmon are relegated to the wildest areas of the north.

Salmon is popular in Japanese cuisine, however. Sake kama, salmon nigiri and sashimi, and sake don are just a few ways it’s prepared.
